The Hottest Countries to Visit Right Now

Most people planning a trip want the same thing first: to know the hottest place in the world right now, or which hot countries are worth the flight in the month they can actually get away. Our tool gives you an instant shortlist. Pick a month, slide to your ideal daytime °C, then refine by sunshine hours, flight time, rainfall, wind and trip type. We scan more than 800 classic and emerging holiday locations in over 140 countries using long term climate norms, so you can see the hottest country right now rather than just the usual names. It is especially helpful for UK and Northern European travellers chasing winter sun or easy summer warmth, but it works just as well wherever you fly from.

Start with the weather. Plan the rest with ease.

Top "where is hot" questions

For really hot holiday weather, UK travellers usually look beyond Europe. The Gulf region (Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Oman), Red Sea resorts, parts of the Caribbean, Mexico, Southeast Asia and the Indian Ocean often deliver some of the highest typical daytime temperatures at popular tourist spots. To see which of more than 800 established and emerging holiday locations worldwide is hottest for your trip, choose your month at the top of this page, push the temperature slider towards the maximum and then sort results by Heat. You get a full world view based on long term climate norms rather than a short list of familiar names.

The consistently hottest places on earth are usually found in countries with desert or near equatorial climates, such as Kuwait, Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, India and parts of East Africa or inland Australia. For holiday planning, what really helps is seeing which specific locations are hot at the time you want to travel. Our tool looks across more than 800 holiday locations in over 140 countries, each with its own long term climate profile. Pick your month, slide the temperature up to the level you want and sort by Heat to see which spots are typically hottest for that time of year, based on long term climate averages.

It changes week to week, but the most extreme heat on earth tends to sit over deserts and the tropics. Parts of the Gulf, North Africa, South Asia and inland Australia regularly top 40°C in their hottest months. For heat you would actually enjoy on holiday, pick your month at the top of this page, push the temperature slider high and sort by Heat. You will see which of our 800 plus destinations is typically hottest at this time of year, based on long term climate norms.

For reliably warm European holidays, the focus is usually on the south. The Canary Islands, Madeira, southern Spain and Portugal, Cyprus, Malta and parts of Greece and southern Italy tend to offer the best mix of winter warmth and sunshine. From late spring through to early autumn, much of the Mediterranean coast is hot enough for beach holidays. To see which parts of Europe are hot for your dates, choose Europe in the Region filter, select your month and then set your preferred daytime °C. You can quickly compare classic hot spots with more unusual options that still meet your comfort range.

If you want hot weather without a long flight, many UK travellers start with southern Spain and Portugal, then nearby islands such as the Canaries and Madeira. For even higher typical temperatures within a similar flight time, parts of North Africa such as Morocco often come into play. Set a short or medium flight time from your UK region, raise the temperature slider and sort by Heat. The tool will surface the nearest destinations that feel properly hot for your chosen month, so you can weigh convenience against how intense you want the heat to be.

Through the winter months, Tenerife and Gran Canaria are often a touch warmer and sunnier on average than some of the other Canary Islands, especially around their southern coasts. All of the main islands can feel pleasantly mild compared with the UK, but those two tend to have the highest typical daytime temperatures and good sunshine for classic winter sun. To see which island suits you best, pick a winter month such as December, January or February at the top of this page, choose Canary Islands in the Region filter and compare each island card for daytime temperature, sunshine hours, rainfall and wind.

The UK still has a temperate, changeable climate and is not classed as a hot country, but heatwaves are becoming more frequent and more intense. Recent summers have seen records broken, including temperatures above 40°C, alongside notably mild spells at other times of year. Our data is based on long term climate norms, so the UK still appears mainly as a mild option compared with classic hot destinations, yet you can use the tool to compare how British locations stack up against warmer regions in any given month.

A key reason western Europe is milder than many regions at similar latitudes is the influence of the North Atlantic ocean circulation, often associated with the Gulf Stream and North Atlantic Drift. This system carries relatively warm water from lower latitudes towards the European coast, helping to moderate winters and support a more temperate climate. Those background patterns are reflected in our long term climate data, which is why many Atlantic facing destinations in Europe show softer winter temperatures than you might expect just from looking at a map.

Use the controls at the top of this page. Choose your month, set your preferred daytime °C on the slider, then refine by sunshine, rainfall, wind, region and flight time. If you want the very hottest options, push the slider high and sort by Heat. If you prefer gentle warmth with plenty of sun, pick a lower comfort range and filter for higher sunshine hours. The results update instantly, so you can see a ranked list and a world map of places that match your personal idea of hot enough.

Tap the heart on any destination card to add it to a shortlist. Open My Shortlists to see everything you have saved, rename lists or remove places you no longer like. Use the share icon to copy a link and send it to friends on WhatsApp, SMS or email so they can open the exact same shortlist in one tap. If you sign in, your favourites stay synced across your devices.

Our climate figures come from long term data sets covering roughly 30 years, so they represent typical conditions rather than one extreme season. That makes them well suited to shortlisting destinations, especially when you compare several options side by side. Your filters control what appears, and our Recommended sort simply balances comfort, practicality and variety for most travellers. We do not sell placement in the results or take payment to push specific destinations, so the list you see is shaped by climate norms plus your own choices, not by advertisers.
