Your snow trip questions, answered

We pre-set -15 to 5°C and Holiday Type: Snow. For powder hunters keep it below 0°C. For families and first timers aim closer to 0 to 3°C and keep wind in the comfortable range.

The Alps are the easy win: France, Italy, Austria and Switzerland with varied terrain and major airports. Also consider Andorra and the Pyrenees for value and shorter transfers.

Japan’s Hokkaido and Canada’s Rockies are classics. The US Rockies and Utah add high-altitude options. Use flight-time filtering to balance travel hours and slope days.

Popular windows are Christmas to New Year and February half-term. For value and quieter slopes look at mid-January or early March, subject to altitude and aspect in your chosen area.

Choose resorts with gentle greens, good ski schools and short transfers. Keep temperatures closer to 0 to 3°C, set wind to comfortable, and save a few options to compare transfer times and village facilities.

Base and mid layers, insulated jacket, waterproof trousers, neck warmer or balaclava, goggles for flat light, warm socks and glove liners. Hand warmers help on chairlifts. Keep skin covered in wind.

Try Lapland and Arctic bases for aurora, huskies and snowshoeing, or alpine spa towns for snowy walks and thermal pools. Keep temps around -5 to 2°C and wind moderate for comfort outdoors.

Keep -15 to 5°C for snow days, set wind to comfortable, then filter by flight time for weekenders vs long breaks. Use the map to spot high valleys and glacier bases, tap ♥ to save and compare.
